This brand is not familiar to most people, but there is quality in Kingsdown mattress. You should not write them off just because they are not at the top. They are on the market for over 100 years, and that means something. You can’t make bad products and stay competitive for such a long time. I think there is no better proof of the quality of Kingsdown mattresses. But lets get on with this review, to see what is happening up close.
First thing you need to know, the best thing that Kingsdown does are innerspring mattresses. These are still the best selling types and most people buy them when they are out to get a new sleeping surface. There are many memory foam, latex and futon mattresses but innerspring is far more superior when it comes to number of sales.
It happens that people rated Kingsdown innerspring mattresses as being more comfortable than Serta and Spring Air. I think this is a great thing for you to hear, since you will save money if you decide to go with this brand. Only Sealy and Simmons were rated better, which shows you a lot about the quality you get with one of beds from this brand.
But when it comes to air beds, latex, memory foam and water beds, the things change a lot. The reviews and ratings are not so good here and most people are not satisfied with their purchase. You can check that out by yourself and read some mattress reviews and ratings that can be found at Amazon.com and Epinions.com. Of course, there are other websites two, but these two com to my mind first.
The only good thing about these models is that they have a good price, but that is not enough to raise the value. Because these beds are not showing satisfying quality, I would suggest you avoid them. If you really have to get memory foam or latex mattress, choose another brand as a manufacturer. Kingsdown is great for innerspring, anything else is not a good option, considering what you can find out there.
There are three ranges of beds I would like to review here. These are: Kingsdown Perfect Partner, the Kingsdown Plush Sense mattress and the Kingsdown Body System mattress.
First one is specifically designed for two people, as its name suggests – Kingsdown Perfect Partner mattress. Good people from this company say that this is their best product and that they use advance technology to make it. But there is one big flaw in their claim that this is the greatest thing for two people. It’s because of the coils that are connected. Innerspring beds will make wave motion because of them and there is no solution to this problem, since all the coils are tied. So, when a motion is made on one side of the bed, inherently, the motion will be transferred to all sides of bed. There is no way of stopping this, especially when one partner is heavier. The only way to have a good mattress, the one that won’t transfer motion, is to get a memory foam mattress. Kingsdown doesn’t make them the way most people want, so this is not an option.
Kingsdown Plush Sense mattress has one feature that sells it: A ProEdge Spring System that is on the box spring. It provides more comfort due to bigger perimeter ad the sides. The edges are 20% firmer than usually which is a great for support. This is a good choice for all of us who like to sleep close to the edge ( I am the first to admit that, but why do I love it, I do not know ). You won’t fall down into the mattress and you will definitely not slide over the bed. It’s a great feature for people who know how to appreciate it.
Kingsdown Body System is using all the best materials out there. But what makes it different is its connection to the Dormo-Diagnostics Sleep Machine. This is actually used to analyze your body shape, distribution of weight and then uses that information to select the best Body System model for you. The data that is used involves statistics from millions of people who were included in the research. This is something of great help, especially for those people who are not sure what kind of firmness level they want. In case you can’t decide what kind of support you need, a good testing on a Dormo-Diagnostics Sleep Machine can help. And with it, you will get a quality bed from this brand.
One bad thing about innerspring models is sagging. It doesn’t happen to Kingsdown models only, but to all the brands out there. No matter how many times you flip your mattress, it will appear eventually. The price this brand offers kinda raises the value of their products so you actually get a good deal here. But don’t be surprised when sagging appears. You can’t do nothing about it, except buying a latex or memory foam bed from the start. But that costs money. If you are on the budget, a Kingsdown mattress is a good choice indeed. But if you want top notch product and are ready to pay for it, I suggest you choose another type of bed and another brand.

I have had a Kingsdown/Crown Imperial for about 10 years now and still LOVE it. Have never had any problems! We travel a good bit and have stayed in all types of hotel/motels with all types of beds, mine is still the best ever. I am in search now for a new mattress for a guest bedroom and plan on putting in a Kingsdown.

I own two rental condos in Myrtle Beach and won’t use anything but Kingsdown mattresses. I installed the Pro Edge Plus in twin beds because the supported edge gives a larger sleeping surface that than other mattresses that slant down at the edges. For the king beds, I installed the Imperial. My guests tell me that the comfort of the beds persuades them to spend their vacations in my condos year after year.

I have just had a Service Inspector out to inspect my Kingsdown mattress after countless mornings of waking up with low backache pain and paying $5000. Kingsdown has determined that the structural elements of my mattress meet their criteria and that they DO NOT WARRANT COMFORT while advertising “health and well-being.” Think arefully before plopping down a small fortune to buy a mattress from Kingsdown. This is not what I would expect to hear from a company with “Over 100 Years of Sleep Innovation.”

I am with d sloan. Both my husband and I wake up every morning stiff and sore. My lower back feels like I slept on the floor all night. This mattress holds in the body heat and wakes me up looking for a cooler spot. I regret paying for such an expensive mattress that feels like it is 20 years old. I wished I could take it back after 1 1/2 years of pain.

Our Kingsdown mattress was the WORST mattress we EVER bought. It was comfortable for about 2 months, then it was ALL downhill after that. Neck pains, headaches, spinal pain, etc., had resulted in countless trips to our chiropractor over THIS mattress. Major sags, lumps, and overall poor construction plague this mattress. After almost 2 years we could no longer sleep on this mattress without tossing & turning during what felt like endless nights. Just prior to it’s haul-away during the delivery of our new Simmons Beautyrest (awesome!), I cut this beast open with a utility knife to see how it was constructed. The interior pillowtop was inferior, the first 3″ of interior padding was pretty much just “mush” (major material separation), covering over a highly inferior spring system, if that’s what you’d call an inner spring system. Just NASTY. What’s worst is the seller, Mattress Giant, took a “you bought it- you own it” attitiude within 3 weeks of it’s purchase. Bottom line – don’t get taken like we were, STAY AWAY from Kingsdown products and don’t say you haven’t been forewarned.

Our Kingsdown mattress was great for the first few months. i have now absolutely had it. I cannot sleep, and wake up with neck and back pain constantly. My husband and i are normal sized people, although i am on the smaller side. They have built up the sides so much that we both just sink in the middle. i recommend you look elsewhere for a pillowtop mattress if you’re on the search.

We purchased a Kingsdown TriLuna latex mattess this January from Mattress Mart in Ontario. Although very comfortable, I found that the mattress slept quite hot, and I often woke in sweats during the night. After two months, I moved the mattress upright to remove my bedskirt for ironing – after putting it back on the boxspring, I noticed that there was a very large lump in the bottom part of the bed, around where you calves hit the mattress. I don’t know if it developed over the two months we slept on it, or if it resulted just from the minor movement. In any event, it did not go down, and was very noticable when you made the bed. I was very discouraged that the mattress was going out of shape after two months;fortunately, Mattress Mart has a great 90 day exchange/comfort guarantee. One more night of sleeping hot convinced me to try another mattress. We now have the Simmons NXG – after a great afternoon nap and one night, I think this new bed is going to be the answer for us. No, it is not quite as comfortable as the latex Kingsdown. However, overall, I think it will prove to be the better purchase for durability and comfort.

I have tried Kingsdown matresses my whole life. I am very used to them by now, but I would like to try a memory foam at some point.

We have had a kingsdown mattress for almost 26 years, it’s a standard size and has been used in the master bedroom for all this time. We have other brands on other beds in our home and none can come close to comparing to this one for the value/ comfort. It is just now starting to break down on one side and I am searching for another one just like it to purchase!

This mattress is a piece of junk. We paid for all the extras just to be sure the so called 20 year warranty remained effective. 2 years later the mattress has sunk in the shape of our bodies over 2 inches. Kingsdown and sleepy will not honor the warranty becuase my cat cut his foot and got a blood stain on tha mattress on the foot of the bed, not even close to wear our bodies are. Their reason, the ‘SPILLAGE” probably ruined the foam inside, Seriously folks, its nowhere near the indents of the mattress where it completely lost its shape. And it wasnt a Spill of any kind, it was a bloody cat paw, Its just their way of not standng behind their product. I paid 3k for this mattress and now it has to go to the dump. I bought better mattresses at value city for an 1/8 of the price.

I purchased a Kingston “SLEEP TO LIVE; CHAIRMAN”, ROYAL AND NAVY FIRMNESS, which is a very new model as of the end of 2010, we read mostly bad reviews, but all of those reviews were of the previous models before Kingsdon did some major revamping. Creating new mattresses. I am writing this review almost a year later because I feel guilty for complaining about our mattress in some review when we first slept on it, it hurt our backs. But after a month of getting used to it, my wife and I absolutely love it! It is by far the best mattress we have ever slept on. Feels like something you would feel in a Four Seasons Hotel Presidential Suite. We love that we each were able to choose our own firmness sides. My only issue is we are about to move back to Ohio from Las Vegas and this is not only the most comfortable (after the initial few weeks of our bodies becoming used to what a high quality mattress feels like) but this is also the most heavy mattress I’ve ever felt. What a pain in the ass to find a fitted sheet too! 20″+ deep! But absolutely no regrets, a great investment, expensive, but worth it. We recommend trying it at the store. We bought ours at MATRESS Firm, who by the way have good prices but always will try and up sell you. Tell them to leave you alone while you find a few mattress you like, then they can talk to you. Also this mattress brand does a body test to tell you what firmness will be good for you. We didn’t use it, we went with what we liked laying on in the store. I knew I like soft for my painful wide shoulders and my wife likes firm for her lower back. Have them deliver it for free! Heavy! Also invest in the memory foam pillows, wow! But I think we could gotten them cheaper elsewhere, maybe, mine was $200 and my wifes, the smaller one was $150. But worth it. We were sleeping on an air mattress for 7 months before I bought us this, and a beat up sunken spring mattress before that, we paid $200 for from Mexicans in Vegas. Whoops, get what you pay for. So check out SLEEP TO LIVE , CHAIRMAN. It’s about one year old now. Don’t worry about a newer version, this one is perfect, you don’t feel anything in between the two different firmness sections of the bed, I remember reading that in reviews, that must be with the older versions. What makes our mattress very good is not only the memory foam, but the LATEX. Haha. Seriously. That’s what’s in it. Good luck. We spent few grand.
